Asador Bastian — Chicago’s New Spanish Steakhouse 🇪🇸🥩

Just got back from traveling abroad and pushed through jetlag to try the newly opened Asador Bastian — and it was totally worth it! 🥩 Started with tortilla española with jamón — even better than versions at other tapas spots, with a perfectly runny center. The table next to us ordered it with truffle, and the aroma was incredible! 🥩 Tried a twist on the Old Fashioned — the Gold Fashioned with Bénédictine, which made it a touch sweeter. 🥩 Sweetbreads (veal thymus) — rich, tender, and slightly springy, but balanced here with sole and sweet beans instead of heavy sauce. A lighter, more thoughtful take. 🥩 Turbot with simple garlic and olive oil — letting the fish’s natural freshness shine. 🥩 The menu offers five steak cuts, sold by the pound. I went with the Simmental (pictured) — well-marbled and aged beautifully, though it’s definitely meant for sharing rather than a solo order. 🥩 The steak came with bone marrow mashed potatoes — delicious but very rich. Might suggest trying another side if you’re sensitive to heaviness. The steak quality was excellent, though seasoning felt a bit understated. Prices are on the higher side, but this is a solid addition to Chicago’s steakhouse scene — recommended if your budget allows!
