Athena β A Sunlit Greek Lunch in Chicago π¬π·βοΈ
My family usually goes to the neighboring Greek Islands for gatherings, but I personally prefer Athena β thanks to its huge glass dome that lets in beautiful natural light, rain or shine. π§οΈ The classic flaming Saganaki cheese β a must-order at every table! The salty, semi-soft kasseri cheese gets beautifully browned under the flame β super addictive. π₯π§ π§οΈ Spanakopitakia β crispy layers of phyllo wrapped around spinach and feta filling β every bite is flaky and savory. π§οΈ Half roasted chicken with potatoes, rice, and a touch of tomato sauce β simply seasoned with olive oil and herbs. π§οΈ Lamb shoulder β you can choose between tomato sauce or eggplant-lemon sauce. I prefer the tomato version! π§οΈ Grilled salmon with asparagus, rice, and potatoes β slightly drier than some places, but still nicely seasoned. π§οΈ Classic desserts: Galaktoboureko (custard pie) and baklava. Honestly, the Galaktoboureko lacked the creamy texture of the traditional version β not my favorite. The baklava was better β nutty, buttery, and honey-sweet, but pair it with coffee or it might be too sweet. Portions here are huge and prices are reasonable, making it great for family meals or group dinners. Plus, valet parking is free (but remember to tip the attendants!). Food quality is pretty similar to Greek Islands, so you canβt go wrong with either spot.
