Au Cheval – The Best Burger in Chicago! 🍔
Okay, maybe that’s a bit clickbaity — I haven’t tried every legendary burger in Chicago. But Au Cheval — you are my holy grail! 🙌 As a spot on a foodie street that still has a line out the door, its popularity totally matches its deliciousness. If you want to eat sooner, just take whatever seating is available — even the bar! 🍻 Cheeseburger + Egg + Bacon When ordering, I saw neighboring tables adding both egg and bacon, and watched the kitchen coolly frying up sunny-side-up eggs and glazed bacon. I followed the regulars' lead — and wow, it was totally worth it. The egg was sunny-side-up, with a gorgeous runny yolk. The bacon was slightly thick, coated in maple glaze and speckled with cracked pepper — honestly, a burger without it just isn’t complete 😆. The pickles had a mild color and a balanced tang — not too sour, refreshing enough to cut through the richness. A bite of burger, then a pickle — pure bliss. 🤤 Foie Gras Scramble The menu price hinted this wouldn’t be a whole lobe of foie gras — and it wasn’t. Chopped foie was sautéed in an onion-red wine sauce, almost like seasoning for the scrambled eggs. Maybe they should rename it “Gourmet Scrambled Eggs” 😅. Still tasty though — slightly sweet-salty sauce spread on toast was delicious, though on its own it fell a bit flat. Roasted Marrow Bones Also on the must-try list here! Served with beef cheek jam, spread over toast… one bite and a smile spread across my face 😁. Sure, bone marrow is great, but that beef cheek jam is the star! Salty, sweet, rich, plus carbs — give the chef, their Uber driver, and their lawyer the keys to the city already. 🗝️ Side note: Anyone learning French on Duolingo knows how to pronounce “Au Cheval” 🐎 — I don’t even need to ask which unit you’re on. It helped me show off a little in front of my boyfriend — thanks, green bird! 🦜😎 #Chicago #ChicagoFood #Burger #FoieGras #LifeInChicago #Duolingo #SoFreakingGood
