Charleston Travel Guide: Crab Catching Edition π¦
December on the East Coast is way too cold βοΈ β itβs the perfect time to escape somewhere warm! If you're still deciding, head to Charleston, SC. We spent 3 days and 2 nights there and already want to go back π π¨ Stay The Pinch Charleston β A beautiful, modern hotel with in-room kitchen and washer/dryer. Free La Colombe coffee and local pastries in the morning βπ§. Deserves all its 5-star Google reviews β perfect for a relaxing getaway! π Getting Around Taxis are affordable, and downtown buses are free π. No car needed! Just a 1.5-hour flight from NYC β ideal for a spontaneous trip. πΈ Things to Do Explore the historic district: Rainbow Row, Pineapple Fountain π, and more. You can cover it all in about an hour! Loved the European-style architecture and Spanish moss draped over the trees π³. King Street is right next to The Pinch β great for shopping ποΈ. Magnolia Plantation: A must-visit! Stroll through gardens with 400-year-old oaks, camellias, azaleas, and even sweet osmanthus. Donβt miss the free From Slavery to Freedom Tour β powerful and well-hosted. Casual Crabbing with Tia: The trip highlight! π¦ We lucked out with a private session. Tiaβs team was fun and taught us everything β from handling crabs to casting nets. We caught 10 blue crabs! π£ Took them to a local crab shack to be steamed and cooked in garlic butter β so fresh and delicious π. π½οΈ Food We didnβt get to try many spots, but Charleston is packed with seafood restaurants and cozy pubs! Donβt miss Southern classics like red rice, cornbread, and grits β carb heaven π! π‘ Tips Early December felt quiet β not too crowded, and not many Asian faces around.
