๐ Check-in at 100 Chicago Restaurants โ No. 24 | Amaru
๐ฝ๏ธ Amaru ๐ Cuisine: Latin American ๐ Address: 1904 W North Ave, Chicago, IL 60622 ๐ฐ Price Range: $50 โ $100 per person Chicago Restaurant Week ends this weekend! Hereโs a Latin American spot in Wicker Park offering two Restaurant Week menus: $60 (4 courses) and $45 (3 courses + choice of dessert). We went with the $45 menu. โ ร la carte add-ons we tried: ๐ Piononos โ Plantain rolls stuffed with Spanish chorizo, wrapped in crispy bacon. Sweet, savory, and deeply satisfying. ๐ฅฅ Coconut Fried Rice โ Malaysian-inspired, fragrant with coconut milk โ my favorite dish of the night! 1๏ธโฃ First Course (choose 1) ๐ Ceviche del Dia โ Classic Latin ceviche, fresh and zesty. Fish varies by season โ highly recommended! ๐ฅ Ecuadorian Llapingacho โ Sweet potato patties, almost dessert-like. Balanced by savory meat sauce. ๐ฅ Ensalada Invierno โ Beautifully plated winter salad, but flavor-wise, just okay. 2๏ธโฃ Second Course (choose 1) ๐ Cuban Oxtail โ Tender, falling-off-the-bone oxtail in rich sauce (a bit salty). Served with aromatic goat cheese dumplings. ๐ Boliche โ Puerto Rican-style braised pork loin โ well-seasoned but slightly overcooked. ๐ฐ Jollof Lentil Cake โ Sweet plantain cake, texture a bit coarse. Served with mild amaranth green curry โ not my top pick. 3๏ธโฃ Third Course (choose 1) ๐ฝ Pastel de Elote โ Sweet corn cake, moist and not too heavy โ like a delicate tamale dessert. ๐ฎ Crema Catalana โ Similar to crรจme brรปlรฉe, creamy and smooth but very sweet. ๐ฌ Verdict: Solid Latin fusion with standout dishes like the coconut rice and piononos. Worth a try before Restaurant Week wraps up! #ChicagoEats #RestaurantWeek #AmaruChicago #LatinFood #WickerPark #ChicagoFoodie
