After visiting the Greek Festival near Lincoln Park last week, it was already pretty late when we stumbled upon a small, unassuming ramen izakaya that was still open — almost walked right past it! But what a happy discovery — we left feeling completely satisfied and already eager to return. 😌❤️ 🍜 Signature Tonkotsu Ramen The highlight of the meal, no question. As someone who prefers lighter flavors, I went through a serious ramen craze years ago, trying spots all over the city — but most left me overwhelmed by saltiness (literally shedding salty tears 😂). I even took a two-year break from ramen! But here — the broth was rich, subtly sweet, and beautifully layered. You could taste the depth of pork bone, vegetables, and kombu, without any heaviness or artificial “umami bombs.” It felt gentle and genuine. For the first time, I understood what Itami Juzo meant in Tampopo about the “proper way to eat ramen”: “Eat some noodles, have a bite of bamboo shoot, then drink three sips of broth.” I finished every last drop of the soup — the true mark of a great bowl. ✅🍲 🍜 Beef Sukiyaki Tonkotsu Same delicious tonkotsu base, but with thin slices of sukiyaki-style beef instead of classic chashu. The sweet-salty meat paired perfectly with the savory broth. Great for those who prefer a balanced to slightly stronger flavor. 🥩✨ 🍜 Karaage Ramen The chicken broth was lighter than the tonkotsu, yet still rich and full of flavor. Topped with crispy, juicy fried chicken that’s golden on the outside and tender inside. Felt like the perfect summer ramen! 🍗🌿 🧅 Some Great Sides: Brussels Sprouts Tempura — Surprisingly delicious! The light, airy batter softened the natural bitterness of the sprouts, while white truffle oil added an elegant, aromatic finish. A tasty and “guilt-free” break from all that meat. 😉 🥩 Tonkatsu — You can’t have Japanese food without some crispy pork cutlet to go with your drink, right? Solid and reliable, just as expected. 🍹 Drinks Their drinks are playful and fun — think boba cocktails!
