Chicago’s Little India 🇮🇳 – A Devon Avenue Food Crawl!

My Indian manager and colleagues recommended Devon Avenue — known as Chicago’s Little India. They said there are over 20 Indian restaurants here, with huge portions, bold flavors, and low prices. As a curry lover, I couldn’t miss it — drove 30 minutes just to check it out. First impressions: the street is packed with Indian shops (maybe some Pakistani/Nepali too) — sari stores, grocery markets, spice shops. We headed straight to a restaurant I’d seen recommended online — colorful bikes out front make for fun photos! Walking in, you’re hit with a wave of aromatic spices — the good kind. The place was spotless, with a sleek black-and-white decor you don’t often see downtown. The dining room was full of Indian/Pakistani/South Asian diners — they seemed pleasantly surprised to see Chinese customers. The menu is three pages long and full of character. We ordered: 🍛 Curry Goat – Forgot the exact name, but OMG so good! If you like curry goat/lamb, you have to try this. Spicy, rich, fall-off-the-bone tender. One of the best curry dishes I’ve ever had. 🍗 Chicken Biryani – Felt like half a chicken buried in rice! Biryani can be fully yellow or half-yellow/half-white — I prefer the bolder yellow kind, but this was still excellent. So much meat! 🧄 Garlic Naan – Thin and crispy here — perfect for scooping up curry. Even though I usually like soft naan, this was addictive. Order extra if you get curry! 🍗 Chicken Wings – Tangy and spicy — not my personal favorite (like butter chicken), but still tender. Try if you like that flavor profile. Portions are massive — we waited about 20 minutes, but it was worth it. After eating, we walked around the local grocery stores — full of Indian snacks, spices, frozen meals, and fresh naan. Xinjiang friends would love it here! Also, Indian ice cream is incredibly rich and milky — don’t miss it. Verdict: I’ll be back to this neighborhood — just for that curry alone. #ChicagoEats #IndianFood #DevonAvenue #LittleIndiaChicago #FoodCrawl #CurryHeaven
