Chicago’s Newest ‘City Within A City’ Is Coming To The South Branch: 62 Acres Of Trails, Dining, And A Pro-Soccer Stadium
There’s a city upon a hill, and then there is a city upon a city . We’re talking about “The 78,” a new neighborhood in the South Loop, located along Roosevelt Road by the Chicago River. The development will begin with the Chicago Fire stadium , which is expected to break ground in early 2026, marking the start of the rest of The 78. The 78: Chicago’s newest neighborhood ------------------------------------- The 78 will span an unprecedented half-mile of riverfront, cover 62 acres, and be bordered by Roosevelt Road, Clark Street, Chinatown’s Ping Tom Park, and the Chicago River. By 2028, it aims to be one of the most desirable places to hang out in the city. According to developer Related Midwest, the area will have ample public transit access, including three CTA lines—the Red, Green, and Orange Lines. This will stop right at Roosevelt and State Street, just a couple of blocks east of the property, and the Riverwalk will connect the site to the Loop, bringing downtown to our doorstep. The plan includes plenty of neighborhood retail, offices, sports, and entertainment, creating a destination for all Chicagoans.
