Chicago’s Newest No-Tip Indian Restaurant — Thattu 🇮🇳

A while back, I tried Thattu’s pop-up at Kedzie Inn. At a Pink Salt event recently, chef Palita introduced me to Thattu’s chef Margaret and mentioned they were opening soon — so I had to check out her South Indian-inspired spot! 🥘 Masala Tater Tots – Like classic tater tots but with masala spice, served with sweet-spicy beet chutney. 🥘 Fried Chicken Burger – Rivals the THC burger from Coach House! The fried chicken is a bit salty on its own, but balanced by the veg and bun. The mayo is curry-infused — a distinct Indian twist. 🥘 Kerala Fried Chicken Bites – Similar to the burger chicken — recommend choosing one or the other. Can be salty if eaten alone. 🥘 Curry Duo – Two curries: cilantro chicken and chickpea curry. Even as someone who usually dislikes cilantro, the chicken curry was fragrant. The chickpea curry has a clear coconut aroma and is spicier. 🥘 Daily Veg Curry Combo – That day’s was eggplant and pumpkin — sweet and flavorful, highly recommended! 🥘 Fried Fish with watermelon salad and curd rice (texture like rice pudding). The fish comes with a tangy-spicy sauce — pretty good. The menu isn’t huge — three of us ordered everything on it and still had a little left to take home. You seat yourself after being greeted, then order at the counter — no tipping required. Only downside: weekends get crowded, and parking is tough. 📍 Thattu 2601 W Fletcher St, Chicago, IL 60618 #SummerEats #ChicagoLife #ExploreChicago #HiddenGem #ChicagoEats #FoodDiary #IndianFood
