Chicago|Found the Ultimate Filipino Dessert Obsession! 🍪💜
The traditional Filipino sweet sylvanas is seriously addictive — and now Chicago finally has a shop dedicated to it! I couldn’t wait, so I went on opening day. 🍪 At first glance they might look like simple cookies, but inside they’re packed with layers: crumbly butter cookie wrapped around a delicate castella sponge cake, filled with Southeast Asian-flavored buttercream — think ube, coconut milk, flan, mocha, matcha, pandan-coconut, and more. The whole cookie is rolled in crushed nuts, making each bite a mix of textures and flavors! 🍪 Besides regular-sized sylvanas, they also have mini versions called Sylbies — perfect for anyone who can’t decide (or just wants to try them all!). They’re a bit pricey though — my little box of 16 was $25, and they also sell boxes of 50. But trust me, they’re worth it. 🍪 Since it was opening day, lots of other Filipino restaurants and home bakers came to support, offering free treats and snacks. Shoutout to Sweet Mandy B’s and Ruby’s — such a beautiful show of community solidarity. 💖 🍪 Special mention from the vendors: 🍗 Fry N Wings had amazing wings — even a salted egg yolk flavor! They’re all the way in Bloomingdale, but I’m already planning a drive just for them. 🍮 Triple J’s Kitchen served Taho — a Southeast Asian-style sweet tofu pudding with sago and syrup. It looked like brown sugar syrup but had a lovely hint of pandan. So unique and refreshing! These treats look like dacquoise, but the cookies are tender and nutty. They seem like cookies but secretly contain cake inside, and since they’re chilled (that creamy filling!), they eat like a cool, smooth, upscale ice cream sandwich. Seriously addictive — already planning my next trip this week! 😋❄️ 📍 Crumbs.nd.Creams 4825 N Pulaski Rd, Chicago, IL 60630 #SummerFoodieCat 🐱 #ChicagoLife #DessertHeaven #ChicagoEats #ChicagoSweets
