Chicago|Just Tried This Super Popular Affordable Japanese Spot!
Personally, I found most dishes just okay—probably wouldn’t order these again: 👎 Oyakodon – Super disappointing, just not good. 👎 Sukiyaki – Broth wasn’t well-balanced, though the bean sprouts had a nice fruity crunch. 👎 Tempura – Batter too thick, oily, and heavy—didn’t sit well. 👎 Gyūdon – The skewers in the set were decent, but the beef bowl was dry and bland. BUT their BBQ skewers are delicious! 🔥 Top picks: Pork Shoulder & Beef Tender. The sauce is amazing and they’re grilled just right. The pork is tender and juicy with no gamey taste—almost like pork collar. The beef skewer sauce is perfect when fresh—truly a flawless skewer! (Though when not as fresh, it can taste a bit off, but still tolerable.) Another favorite: 🐟 Hamachi Kama (Yellowtail Collar) – Crispy skin, super fresh inside. Served with brown rice—absolute perfection! Been three times and order it every visit. When done well, the skin is thin, crispy, and not greasy, with tender meat inside 🥹 Truly in love. I’ve loved grilled mackerel since I was little, and this is even better—more tender and juicy. First time finding this homestyle dish in Chicago—who gets it?! (There’s another place near Northwestern, but this one tastes better.) #ChicagoEats #JapaneseFood #AffordableEats #SkewerLove #HiddenGem #FoodReview
