Chicago|The Most Stunning Fried Fish of My Life 🐟 Proxi
Earlier this year I tried Sepia, and I’d been wanting to visit Proxi — the Asian Fusion spot by the same chef — ever since. Finally got to try their new menu! Started with their signature Path of the Firewalker — comes in different fun themed cups. The neighboring table had a cute bubble fish cup, but by the time we ordered, it was gone — so we got the goblet with the little monster face instead 😂 🍣 The uni shooter ( had good-quality sea urchin, but the fish roe made it a bit salty overall — be careful if you’re planning to down it in one go. 🐟 They have lots of crudo options. The hiramasa ) had a lovely citrusy sauce — fresh and bright. 🥬 Napa cabbage salad ) was my personal favorite. Menu mentioned “Chinese mustard” — couldn’t really pick it out, but the salad was loaded with nuts and sesame, super fragrant, slightly sweet-savory. Super satisfying. Heads up: The appetizers look tempting, but the mains are where it’s really at 🤩 🐟 The fried whole fish — ABSOLUTE SHOWSTOPPER. Served on a huge platter, even the neighboring table was staring 😂. Golden, crispy, impossibly fresh — delicious even on its own. Served with rice, plus green chili sauce and lettuce leaves for wraps. Light, refreshing, creative — one fish, multiple ways to enjoy 🤤 🍜 The lobster sujebi — sujebi is a Korean handmade noodle dish. Texture-wise, it was like a mix between torn noodles, tteok, and pasta — but chewier than all three. Really unique! The flavor was similar to how other restaurants handle lobster — fresh, but slightly salty. If you’re used to Chicago dining, you’ll be fine. The overall vibe wasn’t too aggressively “Asian fusion” — just a few cute decor pieces on the shelves. Really enjoyable experience — might come back for the chef’s tasting menu next time! #ChicagoLife #StudyAbroad #UChicago #LifeInTheUS #ChicagoEats #ChicagoRestaurants
