Chicago's Own Leaning Tower of Pisa
🌹Stumbling upon this half-scale replica of the Italian Leaning Tower of Pisa was quite a surprise.🌹 🌹The Leaning Tower of Niles, located in the Chicago area, was initially constructed in 1931 and completed in 1934, standing at 94 feet tall.🌹 🌹The tower was funded by a businessman named Robert Ilg, and the reasons for its construction are varied.🌹 🌹One theory is that it was built to commemorate the 600th anniversary of the completion of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, while others suggest it was to honor the great scientist Galileo, who developed the law of free fall through his experiments at the Leaning Tower of Pisa. 🌹The city of Niles became sister cities with Pisa, Italy, in 1991. The Niles government also initiated a restoration project for the Leaning Tower of Niles in 1995, which was completed in 1996. Following the restoration, a landscaped fountain, pool, and garden were added at the front of the tower. #Chicago #ChroniclesOfRomanticLiving #LeaningTowerOfPisa #DroneDocumentariesOfTheWorld
