Chicago | Reviews of Recent Eats β Tolerable to Pretty Good π½οΈ
Alpana β A very solid Italian spot β Great ambiance + no bad dishes! Recommended: Roasted Half Chicken β juicy and well-seasoned π Squid Ink Campanelle β reliable seafood pasta π¦π Focaccia β served with a unique tomato dip, delicious! Okay: Pistachio Pesto / Braised Short Ribs β decent but not memorable. Skip: Salmon β a bit fishy and the sauce didnβt blend well. Virtue β Pretty good Southern American fare π Recommended: Cornbread β loved it!! π½ Blackened Catfish β fish was meh but the rice and sauce saved it. Okay: Half Chicken β too sweet and got heavy after a while. Purple Pig β Mediterranean, barely tolerable π Recommended: Mushroom 3 Ways β famous for a reason, rich and flavorful. Octopus β crispy and tasty legs. Okay: Half Duck β overly sweet, made me miss real Peking duck.. Mikami Izakaya & Ramen β Hard to tolerate Japanese π Nice vibe, but food was disappointing. Not recommended: Seafood Udon β soft shell crab was frozen, broth was oily. Tempura Plate β just back from Japan andβ¦ this was thick-battered frozen stuff. Not okay. Quick comparison with two other downtown izakayas: Ikigai Sushi & Izakaya β Tolerable β Average yakitori and seafood bowls. Fine if you live nearby. Sushi-san β Pretty good! β Affordable Japanese spot where every dish hits. Recommended: Tako Taco / Nigiri / Beef N Bop. #InternationalStudentEats #FoodReview #ChicagoFood #ChicagoLife #ChicagoSurvivalGuide
