Can’t see it all… simply can’t see it all 😵💫 Must-see: Van Gogh’s Self-Portrait. One of his 35 self-portraits. The brushstrokes may seem chaotic, but they create a wonderfully subtle play of color 🎨✨. Also made a special trip to see Monet’s Water Lilies, Irises, Haystacks, and the Charing Cross Bridge series. Monet is truly the god of light and shadow 🌅. Through his vibrant oil paintings, even the same view can vividly reflect different seasons and times of day. I also “speed-walked” through other masterpieces like Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks 🍸, Grant Wood’s American Gothic 👨🌾, ancient Chinese bronzes, ceramics, jade works 🏺, and Japanese paintings, prints, textiles, and pottery… Jet lag finally got me – totally exhausted 😴 Hope to come back another time for a closer look. As a wine lover 🍷, I have to mention the Roman statue Statue of a Young Satyr Wearing a Theater Mask of Silenus. Silenus – the bald, big-mouthed old man – was obsessed with wine and music. In Greek mythology, he’s the god of the forest and drunkenness 🎭. It was believed he gained mystical wisdom through intoxication. He also raised Dionysus, the god of wine, as his father, mentor, and companion. The satyr, playful and mischievous, hides behind Silenus’ mask (peek through the eyes 👀) and stretches a hand out through the mouth – weird and mischievous! So happy to be back on my museum journey around the world 🌍🧳. Every day I remind myself to stay curious and grateful. The world is vast, and I still want to see it all. #MuseumDiary #ArtLover #ArtInstituteChicago #ChicagoMuseum #TravelDiary #Wanderlust
