Chicago Food Adventure|Knocked Out by This Foie Gras Scramble

Known as the burger heaven, Au Cheval is one of Chicago’s hottest and most famous restaurants — you’ll always spot a long line outside! Overall, the food is solid, but the foie gras scramble and the Napoleon pastry were truly mind-blowing❗️❗️ If you can get in without the wait, it’s absolutely worth it! We went right as they opened — no wait. To skip the 1.5-hour line, avoid peak dining times! Mains 🍳 Foie Gras Scramble — 5/5 Incredibly rich foie gras scramble with big chunks of liver in the sauce. The eggs are cooked with loads of butter — super tender and creamy. Served on buttery, crispy-on-the-outside, soft-inside toast. One bite and you’re in heaven. Must order! 🍔 Double Cheeseburger + Bacon + Egg — 3.5/4 As a restaurant famous for burgers — it’s not bad. But without the bacon and egg, it’s pretty ordinary. The patty, cheese, and bun are just okay. The added bacon, though, is fantastic — thick, fatty, crispy, and smoky. With a sunny-side-up egg, it’s a satisfying bite. 🦴 Roasted Marrow Bones — 3.5/5 Beef marrow simply seasoned with salt and pepper, served with the same buttery toast as the foie gras scramble. The first bite is pure indulgence — rich, fatty, and satisfying. But the caramelized onion jam is sweet and doesn’t cut through the richness, so it gets heavy fast. One bone is plenty. Sides & Salad 🥔 Hash Browns — 4/5 Shredded potatoes fried into an irregular, crispy cake — delicious and unique. Potatoes never disappoint! 🥬 Kale Caesar — 2.5/5 Topped with cheese, but the dressing tasted off. Not my thing. Dessert 🍰 Mille-Feuille (Napoleon) — 5/5 The star of the meal! Layers of flaky, buttery puff pastry with light, creamy, milky filling — not too sweet, chilled perfectly. Shockingly good for an American burger joint! I’d come back just for this. ⚠️ Tip: Ask them not to pour the super-sweet chocolate sauce on top! Service was standard, but I loved that they grill the patties and toast the buns in an open kitchen — the whole restaurant smells amazing. If there’s no wait, I’d return multiple times just for the foie gras scramble and that Napoleon! #Chicago #ChicagoLife #FoodReview #ChicagoEats #MyFoodDiary #BurgerHeaven #MustTry
