Chicago Food Review – Haewadall 🐖🔥
A spot for spicy braised pig trotters (jokbal) located a bit north of Chicago — a bit of a drive but worth it! Not too far from Northwestern University. 🍖 Spicy Jokbal Rating: 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Everyone recommends this — looks humble but tastes great! Tender, gelatinous, and super satisfying. Fair warning: not actually spicy — it’s more sweet and savory than hot. 🦑 Stir-Fried Spicy Squid Rating: 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Really fragrant and packed with veggies. Squid was tender and absorbed the sauce well — probably the most rice-friendly dish. Loved the deeply flavored scallions cooked in it! 🍲 Gamjatang (Pork Bone Soup) Rating: 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The star of the meal! An amazing, flavorful soup with tender meat on the bones. Lightly spicy, rich broth with hearty seasoning — so good. Skip the trotters if you must, but don’t miss this soup. Overall, the jokbal wasn’t as mind-blowing as expected, but still tasty — and everything else made the trip worthwhile. #ChicagoEats #KoreanFood #Jokbal #Gamjatang #SpicySquid #ChicagoFoodFinds
