Went to the Oak Brook location of Roka Akor today — it’s much nicer inside than the Chicago one! Tried their Valentine’s omakase, described as Japanese but honestly felt more like Japanese-American fusion — not very traditional. It was tasty, but honestly… not much different from their Restaurant Week menu. Pretty disappointing in terms of creativity. 😕 ⭐️ Course One ✨ Yellowtail Sashimi – Thicker cut and better seasoned than during Restaurant Week! ✨ Beef Dumplings – Also way tastier than before — much more flavorful. ✨ Scallop – Char-grilled with a nice smoky flavor, tender and bouncy. Topped with yuzu-garlic aioli — pretty good! ⭐️ Course Two ✨ Five Kinds of Sashimi – Fresh and decent quality. ✨ Sushi – Just okay… same as Restaurant Week, nothing special. ⭐️ Course Three ✨ Seabass – Buttery and pan-seared, firm and delicious. Served with sweet carrot purée — yum! ✨ Wagyu Filet – Super tender, almost melting in the mouth. The spicy ginger sauce wasn’t great — better without it. ✨ Broccolini – Never had this long-stem version before — well-seasoned and tasty! ⭐️ Dessert The only “Valentine’s” touch… and it was cherry-flavored 🍒😭 Let’s just leave it at that. Compared to Restaurant Week, this felt overpriced. The main differences were slightly better ingredients and the addition of sashimi and scallops, but otherwise very similar — yet double the price. Verdict: If you want to try Roka Akor, just go during Restaurant Week — way better value. Other times? Not worth it — lacking uniqueness and too pricey for what you get. Won’t be returning. 📍 Roka Akor - Oak Brook 166 Oakbrook Center, Oak Brook, IL 60523 💰 Price per person: $120+ #DinnerTonight #ChicagoEats #ChicagoFood #Omakase #JapaneseFusion #RestaurantReview
