Chicago in Two Days — Just for the Architecture 🏙️
On my second trip to Chicago, I did one thing: wander through this global capital of modern architecture, and catch the unforgettable sunset between skyscrapers. 🏢 The Loop – Chicago Board of Trade building – where the Joker’s truck flipped in The Dark Knight 🃏. The statue above is faceless — because “no one would see it clearly anyway.” – Monadnock Building – half brick, half steel frame, spliced together. – Chicago Cultural Center – home to the world’s largest Tiffany glass dome. – Willis Tower – once the world’s tallest, still king of the skyline. – Seventeenth Church of Christ – looks like a spaceship 🚀. 🏢 Magnificent Mile – Tribune Tower – a “world architecture fragment collector.” Pieces from the Great Wall, pyramids, Colosseum, Sydney Opera House, etc., are embedded in its facade. (Couldn’t find the rumored moon rock display.) – Wrigley Building – strikingly white, even more radiant at night. – Marina City – the iconic “corn cob” parking towers 🌽. – Water Tower – survivor of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. – Plus many Art Deco gems lining this glamorous mile. 🏢 Frank Lloyd Wright Designs – Robie House & Unity Temple – two of Wright’s eight UNESCO World Heritage works. – Wright’s Home & Studio – learn about his living spaces, kids’ playroom, and client workflow. – The Rookery – see Wright’s luminous courtyard redesign and elegant spiral staircase. Wright’s stained glass designs are breathtaking — almost every building has its own unique glass pattern. The light play inside Robie House is truly mesmerizing. All four Wright sites can be booked through the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust. Except The Rookery, the others are a bit outside downtown. #Chicago #ChicagoTravel #ChicagoArchitecture #ArchitectureLovers #FrankLloydWright
