Chicago Northeastern Chinese Food – Take This Recommendation! 🥢

Nan Lai Bei Wang (Uncle Zhang Chinese Cuisine) — a Northeastern Chinese spot I’ve recently fallen for. Went twice in one week! Every dish is hearty, comforting, and perfect for warming up in the chilly Chicago winter. 📍 Uncle Zhang Chinese Cuisine 742 W 31st St, Chicago, IL 60616 🍖 Old-Style Guo Bao Rou (Sweet & Sour Pork) Juicy pork slices with a glistening crispy coating — slightly chewy and totally addictive. My favorite version in the city! 🥔 Di San Xian (Stir-fried Potato, Eggplant & Pepper) A must-order! The potatoes are freshly fried with a delicious crispy edge. 🐟 Song Shu Yu (Sweet & Sour Crispy Fish) Worth the wait — freshly fried fish with perfect scoring, crispy outside and tender inside. Slightly sweet and tangy. 🍜 Cold Noodles Recommended by a friend — refreshing, tangy, and sweet. Comes with generous slices of beef. Ask for chili oil — it takes it to the next level! 🥘 Stir-fried Pork Kidney Decent, a tiny bit gamey but still goes great with rice. 🥒 Tiger Salad (Cucumber & Green Pepper Strips) Standard but huge portion! 🐑 Cumin Lamb Not a fan — wouldn’t recommend. 🤔 One question though: Why is the English name Uncle Zhang, and why does Uncle Zhang translate to Nan Lai Bei Wang (South Comes North Goes)? 😄 #ChicagoEats #NortheasternChinese #ComfortFood #ChicagoFoodie #ChineseCuisine #MustTry
