Chicago Restaurant Week | Bistro MonadnockšŸ“āœØ

For my second meal during **Chicago Restaurant Week**, I went with French cuisine again! This time, I chose **Bistro Monadnock** in the Loop to try their **$60 dinner menu** (p5). I wish they had a lunch menu option too! šŸ¤” Overall, I found the experience a bit underwhelming. The portions were generous, but nothing really stood out as exceptional. Since I wasn’t feeling great in the afternoon, I opted for the easier-to-digest **French Onion Soup** as my starter āž”ļø p1. The broth was made with veal stock, topped with bread soaked in the soup and melted cheese. Honestly, the soup had a heavy, soy sauce-like flavor, reminding me of the beef broth I recently made at home following a recipe. However, the seasoning didn’t really bring out the beef’s aroma. šŸ²šŸ§€ For the main course, I had the **Steak Frites** āž”ļø p2. I ordered the steak **medium rare**, and I loved the tender, juicy interior. The kitchen nailed the cooking temperature, and the parsley-garlic butter enhanced the steak’s flavor. The only downside was the fries, which were a bit soft. Still, my friend and I spent an hour chatting over half a plate of fries until the server came to ask if we wanted dessert. šŸ˜‚ Dessert was the classic **CrĆØme BrĆ»lĆ©e** āž”ļø p4. I scraped off most of the caramel layer (I’m not big on sweets) and enjoyed the rich, creamy custard underneath. You could see real vanilla beans at the bottom of the dish. While I’m not a dessert expert, it was definitely tasty. šŸ‘ŒšŸ® Here’s what my friend ordered: **Starter**: **Steak Tartare** āž”ļø p2. My friend said it was delicious. They gave so much bread that he ate half and took the rest home. I guess it must’ve been good! šŸ„©šŸž **Dessert**: **Clafoutis** āž”ļø p4. I tried a bite and was struck by the strong almond flavor that filled my mouth. It’s worth trying, but it’s also very sweet. šŸ˜‹šŸ˜ The restaurant had a lot of local customers—my friend and I were the only Asian faces there that night. The dishes we chose might not have been the best fit for my taste, so I’m not sure if I’ll return. šŸ™ƒ #ChicagoRestaurantWeek #FrenchCuisine #ChicagoFood #Chicago #GoogleBookmarksChallenge
