Chicago Restaurant Week โ€” Roka Akor Japanese Restaurant Review ๐Ÿฃ๐Ÿฅฉ

Restaurant: Roka Akor Address: 456 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60654 This yearโ€™s Restaurant Week menu is $59 for 3 courses. Not mind-blowing, but compared to ร  la carte prices, Iโ€™d give it a 7.5/10 โ€” worth trying during RW. Appetizers โ€” Three Small Bites ๐ŸฅŸ Wagyu Gyoza โ€” slightly spicy, thin wrapper, juicy filling, a bit salty. Two per person. ๐ŸŸ Escolar Tataki โ€” my favorite. Fatty fish slices paired with refreshing yuzu sauce โ€” so good. Two slices per person โ€” not enough! ๐Ÿฃ Hamachi Serrano Maki โ€” yellowtail sushi roll. The highlight: creamy wasabi sauce + jalapeรฑo slices โ€” two different kinds of spicy, great contrast. Mains ๐Ÿฅฉ Japanese Wagyu Steak After the server said wagyu steak is their signature, I didnโ€™t hesitate โ€” ordered the Wagyu Sirloin, medium rare. Pan-seared with a light teriyaki glaze โ€” tender, fragrant, but leaner than I expected. Crispy outside, juicy inside, dipped in salad dressing โ€” very Asian-style steak experience. Came with assorted mushrooms (not listed on the menu โ€” a nice little surprise) + a side of Chinese broccoli. First time eating steak with chopsticks โ€” felt like proper meat-feasting ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐ŸŸ Grilled Fish Black cod with yuzu dressing โ€” tried a bite from a friend, it was good. Plating was unique, looked fancy. The pickled onion on the side? So sour it woke me right up ๐Ÿ˜‚ Everyone else at the table ordered wagyu, so didnโ€™t get to try the Korean-style lamb chop. If youโ€™ve had it, drop a review! ๐Ÿฎ Dessert I ordered the cream puff โ€” the puff itself was disappointing: hard, not flaky. The cream inside was fine (sweetness OK), and the mango sorbet on the side was average. ๐Ÿ“‹ Restaurant Week menu attached at the end. With tax + tip, came to $80 per person (no drinks). The wagyu steak was familiar Asian-style โ€” so honestly, not super surprising. #ChicagoEats #RestaurantWeek #RokaAkor #JapaneseFood #WagyuSteak #FoodieReview ๐Ÿฃ
