Chicago Review | Michelin Indian Restaurant Indienne
Recently obsessed with Indian cuisine, I visited Chicago's only Michelin-starred Indian restaurant, Indienne, for a tasting experience. Opted for the non-vegetarian tasting menu β clearly a fusion Indian approach. The menu featured many unfamiliar items, so I spent two days prepping just to appreciate it fully! Dhokla Aero - πππππ Dhokla is a traditional steamed chickpea flour cake β a staple in India (so local that most YouTube videos are in Hindi!). Traditionally served with a tempering of curry leaves, mustard seeds, and green chili. Here, the chef reimagined it into a crispy chocolate-chickpea creation served over ice, with the classic flavors infused inside. Topped with tamarind-mint chutney and a rich, fatty sauce under edible petals. Pani Puri - πππππ Fine dining version of the iconic Indian street snack β the puri shell shaped like a tart, filled with passion fruit and spiced water. Tasty but not groundbreaking. Mushroom Galouti - πππππ Galouti is a melt-in-your-mouth Indian kebab. This version uses truffle and goat cheese to mimic lambβs richness, stuffed inside an Γ©clair. While truffle feels like a fine-dining staple, it cleverly captures galoutiβs soft texture and meaty flavor, enhanced with extra truffle shavings on top. Very true to Chef Sujanβs style β replacing meat with creative ingredients. Yogurt Chaat - πππππ A layered dessert: spiced strawberry broth at the bottom, crispy fried potato strings, creamy spiced yogurt, and a dehydrated yogurt crisp on top β finished with tamarind, strawberry, and mint sauces. Complex and refreshing. Overall, Indienne blends Indian tradition with modern twists β some pleasant surprises, though sometimes the reinterpretations felt predictable. Still, a solid experience β though I personally prefer the desserts at Nadu for their punchier flavors. #ChicagoEats #Indienne #MichelinIndian #FusionCuisine #FineDining #IndianDesserts
