Chicago Yakitori Spot — Had to Come Back Again!
First tried it last Thanksgiving, came back again this Thanksgiving — in a way, it’s become my own “Thanksgiving tradition restaurant” now 😂 Still absolutely satisfying, so here’s another review to share with you all! 🍽️ Today’s Menu: 📌 Takoyaki Soft batter with fresh octopus inside — a classic done right! 📌 Tako-wasabi (Octopus & Wasabi) Highly recommended! Fresh octopus cut into pieces with refreshing wasabi — great for cutting through richness. 📌 Omurice (Omelette Rice) A must for omurice lovers! Well-seasoned rice mixed with veggies, wrapped in a fluffy egg blanket 🍳 📌 Tsukune (Chicken Meatball + Quail Egg) Sweet-glazed chicken meatball, dense texture, made extra smooth with a quail egg dip 🥚 📌 Torikawa (Chicken Skin) As always — crispy, savory, delicious! 📌 Zukkini (Zucchini with Mentaiko) Zucchini topped with thick grilled mentaiko sauce — veggies that taste like meat 😋 📌 Wagyu Skewer Served on its own mini grill! Super tender wagyu beef 🥩✨ 📌 Dote-yaki (Beef Tendon with Miso Sauce) Personal favorite! Soft tendon with savory miso glaze — melts in your mouth. 📌 Osaka Mule Zesty, bubbly, and refreshing — perfect palate cleanser! 📌 Fukushima on the Beach Tropical coconutty cocktail, sweet and tangy 🥥🍹 📌 Saba (Mackerel) A whole large mackerel — fresh, flaky, grilled till crispy-skinned 🐟🔥 📌 Coedo Beer Japanese-style? Super fizzy and crisp! 🍺 📞 Important Details: 📍 Restaurant: Izakaya Shinya 📍 Address: 2255 W North Ave, Chicago, IL 60647 📍 Price per person: ~$80 (including 2 drinks!) ❄️ Only tiny downside: the restaurant felt a bit chilly (maybe just a winter thing!). But if you ask me — What’s the best yakitori in Chicago? This is it! 🏮 Got other Chicago Japanese food recommendations?
