Clay Pot Rice in a Non-Asian Restaurant β Maxwells Trading π
A friend recently recommended this new Asian fusion spot β opened by the former chef of Pacific Standard Time (remember that pink-hued restaurant?). Visited during its first week. πΉ Tart (Non-Alc Drink) β Sharp and citrusy β lime peel βrosesβ were a cute touch. π₯ Prosciutto & Gnocco Fritto β Similar to Adalinaβs version, but with goat cheese (mild in flavor) instead of ricotta. π Clay Pot Rice β Chinese sausage, pork belly, tofu skin, kale, mushrooms β served with three sauces: soy, sriracha, and chili bean (tasted like Lao Gan Ma). Rice was soft, not crispy, no crust β tasty but not traditional. Chinatown does it cheaper. π Turbot in Beurre Blanc β Tender, buttery, with creamy potatoes β a highlight. π° Earl Grey Tiramisu β Too sweet (American-style) β skip. π Pop-Up Space in Back β Full of rare books, CDs, and local Chicago honey β worth a browse. Industrial-chic vibe, great service. The chef is half-Chinese, and the fusion feels natural, not forced. Definitely planning a return. π Maxwells Trading 1516 W Carroll Ave, Chicago, IL 60607 #MaxwellsTrading #AsianFusion #ClayPotRice #ChicagoEats #WestTown #ChefOwned
