🍜 Columbus Japanese Ramen + How to Order Ramen Like a Pro

Recently visited Columbus’s top-rated ramen spot — Meshikou Ramen. Great location on Bethel Road, in the same plaza as Kpot. Whenever I order ramen, I get confused by the names — especially when two different ones have the same description. So I decided to dig deeper! (Didn’t take a pic of the menu, but the one in Image 7 is from Google Maps 5 years ago — pretty similar to now.) Here’s what I learned that’s actually helpful: 1️⃣ Shio = salt-based broth Shoyu = soy sauce-based broth 2️⃣ Chintan = clear broth Paitan = creamy, milky broth (often made from boiling bones) Knowing those two made everything click! 😆 There are other broth types too I really wanted tonkotsu ramen, but they don’t have it. The two bowls we ordered were pretty good — my only note: the straight noodles tasted like packaged Chinese wheat noodles to me 😅. Next time I’ll go for wavy noodles — at least they feel more like ramen. We also tried takoyaki — not as good as the ones from snack streets back in China, but good enough for a craving! #JapaneseRamen #StudentEats #StudyAbroadLife #ColumbusEats #Columbus #Ohio #RamenTips
