DMV Eats|Kotobuki: A Cozy Japanese Kamameshi Spot 🍚🏮

Just discovered another amazing Japanese gem in DC! Kotobuki is a super homey, family-run spot near Momo’s Cafe—simple, authentic, and delicious. 👨👩👧👦✨ 📍 4822 MacArthur Blvd NW, Washington, DC 20007 Parking: Street parking only—easier to find spots uphill across the street. The restaurant is on the second floor (no elevator), with just about 7-8 tables and a few bar seats—very intimate! The menu is straightforward: small plates, sushi, and kamameshi (claypot rice). Prices aren’t cheap—we spent over $100 for two. Must-order: 🍱 Unagi Kamameshi – Absolutely incredible! The eel is super fatty and flavorful. At first glance, the portion looks modest, but it actually comes with 8 generous pieces of eel and a huge serving of fragrant rice—especially the crispy bottom layer! The dish includes fern shoots, which add a unique touch. 🐚 Clam Kamameshi – A bit too light and lean for our taste; next time we’ll try chicken or beef. Pro tip: Eel lovers should go for the Unadon (eel rice bowl)! Sushi here isn’t the best value—fish quality is decent and fresh, but not exceptional. My top pick: Aburi Salmon – lightly seared and super aromatic! 🔥🍣 Each kamameshi set comes with three types of seasonal pickles and four slices of sashimi—the side dishes change with the season and offer flavors you won’t find elsewhere. Verdict: Highly recommend, especially for the eel rice! A must-try for authentic, comfort-style Japanese. 🥢💖 Have you been to Kotobuki? What’s your favorite kamameshi spot in the DMV?
