DMV Food|Chaozhou Braised Delights at a Cantonese-Speaking Spot! 🥢✨
📍 1983 Chinese Cuisine 🌟 8/10 Visited this new location in Pentagon City after seeing it on social media! A major green flag right away: the staff all speak Cantonese – instant bonus points! 👍 1️⃣ Appetizer: Chaozhou-Style Braised Platter Surprisingly, they serve Chaozhou braised dishes – my first time trying it in the US! 🥩 The platter included tofu, beef shank, and pork belly. Usually, it’d come with goose liver or feet, but hey, we’re in America – can’t complain! 😂 2️⃣ Innovative Dish: Chilled Sweet & Sour Pork A creative twist! I first tried this at Tao Tao Ju in Guangzhou last year – never expected to find it here! ❄️ The pork stayed crispy, and the sweetness was perfectly balanced (I usually hate overly sweet versions). 3️⃣ Prawns with Garlic & Chili Solid but not outstanding. At $18, we got six prawns – decent freshness! 🦐 4️⃣ Imperial Consort Rice Soup I was super excited for this one! They nailed the method – sprinkling crispy rice on top, and the seafood portion was generous! 🍚🦀 The only letdown: the broth was a bit bland, almost like chicken soup, missing that rich shrimp-oil aroma and vibrant orange color. Still worth trying though! We also ordered Salted Egg Yolk Pumpkin – pretty standard. They even serve Sichuan dishes! We could smell the spicy fish stew from the next table – definitely coming back to try their Sichuan offerings next time! 🌶️🤣 Have you been here? What’s your favorite Cantonese dish in the DMV?
