Eating Ants in Chicago — A FäFō Pop-Up Tale 🐜
In my past life, I said I loved “white people food” — and the food gods cursed me. Now, reborn as an armadillo, I survive on ants in Chicago… Actually, it’s FäFō, a weekend pop-up inside Little Evette’s, run by chefs from Kimski, Sushi Suite, and Momotaro. Open Fri–Mon after 6 PM. 🥚 Blue Matcha Deviled Eggs – Saw “blue matcha” on the menu and ordered. Topped with… ants! The server was surprised I didn’t know 😅. The ants tasted fried and crunchy, though a bit salty. (You can buy them from Rare Tea Cellar if curious!) 🥗 Egg Salad – Fluffy, airy, with chili powder, croutons, and bits of meat — highly recommend. 🍖 Daily Special: Fried Pork Chop – Thicker than German schnitzel, well-seasoned and juicy. 🥩 Daily Special: Wagyu New York Strip – Rich but not greasy. The real star: cheesy tater tots that tasted like gourmet Cheetos. 🍧 Apple Mustard Sorbet – Refreshing, with lemon and toasted buckwheat — surprisingly not overpowering. 🐟 Complimentary Blue Matcha Taiyaki – Chef said there’s ginger, but it was subtle — creamier than most ice cream shop versions. This tiny spot was once named one of The New York Times’ 50 Best Restaurants in America. By day, it’s a Lebanese-Mexican cafe (tacos are famous). At night, it becomes New American with Mexican flair. Beyond the adventurous ingredients, the food is genuinely delicious. The pop-up is set to run for about six months — go try it while you can! 📍 Little Evette’s 2807 N Sheffield Ave, Chicago, IL 60657 #FaFoPopUp #LittleEvettes #ChicagoPopUp #EdibleAnts #AdventurousEating #NewAmerican
