Eating in Rome | Authentic Pasta & Meatballs
🥘 Restaurant: Mimì e Cocò (4.7/5 on Google) 💰 Average Cost per Person: €25–30 🥙 Dishes 🥗 1. Smoked Salmon Salad – €16 It’s true that food across Europe tends to be a bit salty, but this salmon salad was overly salty for an appetizer. However, the salmon 🍣 was extremely fresh. It was served over a bed of arugula 🥬 and drizzled with olive oil 🫒—the portion of ingredients was quite generous. 🍝 2. Spaghetti with Meat Sauce – €14 A traditional meat sauce spaghetti, made with bacon 🥓, cheese 🧀, and egg yolk. In my opinion, the difference between classic spaghetti dishes across Italy isn’t particularly big—some handmade pasta spots might serve thicker, more al dente noodles, but that’s about it. This plate was slightly tangy in flavor, and the crumbled bacon 🥓 was also very salty. Still, you’re in Italy—you definitely have to give it a try. 🧆 3. Tomato Meatballs with Fried Potatoes – €19 One of my favorite dishes at the table! The meatballs are made with beef 🐂; you can tell they aren’t pure meat (there might be flour or mashed potatoes 🥔 added), but they’re rich in meaty flavor. The tomato sauce 🍅 had a balanced sweet-savory taste, and the fried potatoes were crispy and delicious—super classic. 🧀 4. Lasagna with Meat Sauce & Cheese – €14 Another one of my favorites! The cheese between the layers perfectly balanced the tanginess and saltiness of the meat sauce 🥩, pairing flawlessly with each layer of lasagna. This is also highly recommended. That said, the best lasagna I’ve ever had was in Bologna 🇮🇹—its hometown (I’ll share recommended restaurants for that in my upcoming Bologna guide). 🍸 5. Drinks We ordered 4 drinks total, averaging €9 each: 3 Spritz (2 with a white base 🍹, 1 with a red base 🍷) and 1 mojito 🥃. Again—you’re in Italy, how could you not try Spritz? Even if you know what it tastes like, you still have to give it a sip. In the end, we finished our drinks knowing exactly what to expect. 🌟 I didn’t find this restaurant through online recommendations. After eating at another place nearby, I just searched Google for highly-rated spots nearby—and this one didn’t disappoint at all. (You can ask the staff to reduce the saltiness of the dishes!) #Rome #RomeRestaurants #ItalianPasta #ItalianCuisine #RomeTravel #Lasagna #Pasta #Travel #FirstTripOfTheNewYear
