Eddie V's — Seafood 🐟 Steak 🥩 & Live Jazz 🎷
Eddie V’s remains my all‑time favorite seafood‑steakhouse in Chicago — a place I return to again and again. It’s right across from the classic Joe’s Seafood (which I also love), but many people overlook Eddie V’s and head straight to Joe’s. Honestly, this spot is just as impressive! My first visit was during Restaurant Week years ago — I was in the area and decided to give it a try. Unlike many restaurants that shrink portions for Restaurant Week, Eddie V’s served full‑sized dishes with no compromise on flavor. I was hooked. Over time, I became friends with the former head chef José, who often invited me in for meals 😸 — though he’s since moved to a new Eddie V’s location in Florida (yes, like Joe’s, it’s a chain — but a really good one!). ✨ The dining room is perfect for dates or business dinners. Note: The bar opens at 4 PM, but the kitchen starts around 5 PM. That’s also when live jazz begins — enjoying great food, drinks, and music together is simply unbeatable. 🆓 Complimentary starter at every table — crispy crackers topped with guacamole and shrimp. 🦀 Crab Cake Sautéed to preserve the crab’s natural sweetness — simple and delicious. 🥩 Filet Oscar + South African Lobster Tail “Oscar style” means steak topped with seafood, asparagus, and béarnaise sauce — a luxe take on surf‑and‑turf (this one even comes wrapped in bacon!). Eddie V’s is a sister restaurant to Capital Grille, so the steak quality is consistently excellent. 🐟 Salmon Solid, though I’d recommend the scallops or branzino over this. 🥔 Sides My favorites are the truffle mac & cheese and lobster mashed potatoes — rich, cheesy, loaded with truffle or lobster, and pure carb‑lover joy. 🍰 Dessert Didn’t order this time, but the Bananas Foster Butter Cake is a must‑try — prepared tableside flambé‑style (like Baked Alaska) and served with ice cream for that perfect hot‑and‑cold combo.
