Formento’s — Italian Comfort Food from Grandma’s Kitchen 🍝
Formento’s is a classic Italian restaurant in West Loop, opened by a friend’s husband in memory of his grandmother. I finally had the chance to visit recently. 🍹 Started with a non-alcoholic drink “Starry Night” — light and refreshing. Also enjoyed the complimentary focaccia bread. 🍹 Fried calamari — honestly, just okay. 🍹 Fresh ricotta with sourdough, honey, and dried figs — sweet, creamy, and almost dessert-like. 🍹 King crab ravioli — packed with crab meat and a hint of caviar. Seafood-forward and satisfying. 🍹 Chicken Parm — huge portion (clearly made with a grandma’s “eat more!” mentality). Flavor was a bit mild — maybe because the cut was so large. We ended up taking half home. 🍹 Cacio e pepe rigatoni with a soft egg yolk mixed in — creamy, cheesy, and comforting. 🧀 You can also add fresh Parmesan to any pasta or chicken — servers will keep grating until you say stop! All dishes were chef’s recommendations, and with Restaurant Week coming up, this could be a great spot to try.
