Fort Worth, Texas: Cowboys and Bulls in the Heart of the West
🧋(Fort Worth Stockyards, known as the “Gateway to the American West,” is a must-visit for anyone interested in cowboy culture. Located about an hour from Dallas and four hours from Austin, this historic town became a major livestock trading hub in the mid-20th century after the railroad was built. The main historic district is filled with famous cowboy boot shops, Western-themed stores, and museums. The architecture is reminiscent of 19th-century cowboy style, and many visitors and staff dress as cowboys or cowgirls, making you feel like you’ve stepped into the Wild West! ✨Activities to Try: Longhorn Cattle Drive Longhorn cattle, a signature breed of Texas, are featured in daily parades at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. The cattle walk down the main street for a few minutes, and afterward, visitors can take photos with them. When I visited near Christmas, there were also festive wagon parades with a lot of holiday cheer! 🌟Gun Show and Cowboy Shootout Held at the back of the station, the show features four actors in a 15-minute performance. It starts off comedic but takes a surprising turn when the guns are fired, which can be quite startling! There’s also a train-based Robber Show, though I didn’t get to see it on my visit. 🌟Rodeo Championship The rodeo takes place on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m., ending around 9:30 p.m. Tickets are around $40-$60. It typically includes bull riding and horse riding events. During my visit, which was at the end of the year, the evening show only had bull riding due to it being the final competition period. It was truly intense! #WhereToGoOnWeekends #Texas #FortWorth #CowboyCulture
