Found My Lifelong Bread in Anchorage! ππ
The place is called Great Harvest Bread Anchorage β according to Google Reviews, itβs been open for at least 15 years and is a beloved local bakery π₯. Even on a Wednesday noon, the line was long but moved quickly. Besides their daily offerings, they have a rotating special menu and make sandwiches and paninis using their popular fresh-baked bread π₯ͺ. β¨ Best part? They have a free sample window where you can try 1-2 varieties β even after paying! The staff cuts generous slices and even spreads butter for you π§. When I mentioned I was buying bread for hiking, the girl at the counter enthusiastically recommended several options and cut fresh samples for me. Each piece was huge, warm, and felt like a full portion β so generous! β¨ Cranberry Walnut Sourdough I ended up buying this β absolutely incredible! Perfect for breakfast or as hiking fuel. Similar to Costcoβs famous version but 1.5x bigger and with more artisan charm π. Packed with locally sourced cranberries (tangy and juicy!) and crunchy walnuts. The sourdough fermentation aroma was divine β I even got up at night to sneak a bite! Ended up saving some to bring home π. β¨ Apple Walnut Coffee Cake So fluffy and moist β not overly sweet like typical American pound cakes. The apple bits and walnuts added lovely surprises πβ¨. I enjoyed it slowly during a road trip β pure comfort! β¨ White Chocolate Cranberry Their cranberries are legendary β plump, sweet-tart, and juicy. This combo was delicious, but I skipped it since itβs sticky and not ideal for hiking. β¨ Cinnamon Chip Soft, sweet, and comforting β the chocolate chips melt into the bread π«. A reliable sweet treat! β¨ Cinnamon Swirl Their star seller! Soaked in syrup β crispy, fragrant, and highly addictiveβ¦ but also very sweet. Two bites were enough for me π₯². β¨ Multigrain Rustic Loaded with seeds and grains β great texture but a bit plain alone. Best with spreads! This truly felt like the bread of my life ππ«. If I had more time, Iβd definitely go back for more. It even inspired me to try baking my own β truly magical how good food can move us! β¨ #Alaska #AnchorageEats #FoodieFind #BestBreadEver ποΈπ§‘
