Gothenburg: the “green lung” of the city
🌟 After three days in Gothenburg I kept my itinerary light. Beyond museums, I spent hours wandering local parks—watching trees, people, and animals, soaking up the Nordic summer. 🌟 Slottsskogen is the city’s largest, oldest, and most beloved park. Locals call this patch of green the “lungs of Gothenburg.” It’s a go-to for zoo visits, playgrounds, strolling, cycling, and jogging. 🚃 Reach it by tram to Botaniska Trädgården, Majvallen, or Linnéstaden. It’s a 30-minute walk from the city centre and always free. 🌟 The park is vast with several entrances. A handy loop: start at the Natural History Museum → zoo → exit at the Rörelsehindrad car park. The museum (free, lockers available) displays local fauna and a gift shop packed with fossils, plush toys, and design souvenirs. 🌟 On our visit the park hosted a half-marathon; runners jogged to live music. The centrally located zoo houses moose, red deer, fallow deer, seals, and pigs in spacious, well-labelled enclosures. My favourites: the playful seal brothers and the gentle moose—just note they may be napping or feeding. 🔸 Beyond wildlife you’ll find traditional Swedish cottages, an observatory, and forest trails—perfect for slowing down. 🔸 Check the official Slottsskogen website for current events: July brings children’s theatre, summer jazz, and outdoor film nights. Ten QR codes hidden on tree trunks are refreshed monthly, adding playful trivia to every stroll. #Gothenburg #SwedenTravel#Sweden #NordicLife#ParkLife
