Harrisburg Day Trip (Half a Day Is Actually Enough)
Although it’s the capital of Pennsylvania, there really isn’t much to do here. In my opinion, half a day is plenty. The downtown area is very small—no need for a car or public transportation; walking is totally fine. Pennsylvania State Capitol Complex 🏛️ Note: A landmark in Harrisburg. No reservation or ID required—just walk right in. There are also a few churches nearby worth checking out. Susquehanna River 🌉 Note: The riverside views are quite nice. There are several bridges over the river, and City Island is in the middle. I heard there are boat tours, but I didn’t take one. Seems like every U.S. city has a boat tour option. Broad Street Market 🥦🍎 Note: Said to be over 100 years old. You can eat there or buy vegetables, fruits, flowers, etc. I planned to have lunch there, but it’s only open from Thursday to Sunday. I went on a Monday 😅. Ended up at a small nearby shop hoping for a pleasant surprise, but ordered some unfamiliar mix of fries and meat—way too salty. The State Museum of Pennsylvania 🏺 Note: It’s right next to the Capitol. I wasn’t particularly interested in Pennsylvania’s history, so I skipped it. Parks 🌳 Note: There are some parks around the city according to the map, but parks in U.S. cities often feel quite similar. Unless they’re historically significant or really famous, I didn’t feel like spending time there. #Harrisburg #Pennsylvania #OffTheBeatenPath #Philadelphia #Pittsburgh
