馃尰Palazzo Corsini is a renowned Late Baroque palace in Rome. It was originally built in the late 15th century as a countryside villa by Riario, the grandson of Pope Sixtus IV (the 212th Pope). 馃挍In 1736, the building and its gardens were purchased by Neri Maria Corsini, nephew of Cardinal Clement XII of Florence, who commissioned his fellow Florentine Ferdinando Fuga to renovate the palace. 馃敟 Fuga transformed the former Riario family villa into a true urban palace. 馃尨During the Napoleonic occupation of Rome, the palace hosted Joseph Bonaparte, the emperor鈥檚 brother. 馃挓On June 3, 1849, one of the bloodiest battles in defense of the Roman Republic took place near the villa, during which Goffredo Mameli (lyricist of the Italian national anthem) was fatally wounded. 馃挋 In 1883, Prince Tommaso Corsini sold the palace to the Italian government and donated its library and art collection. 鉁匱he palace subsequently became the home of the Royal Lincean Academy鈥檚 offices and library, as well as the Gallery of Ancient Art, which was established to house the Corsini family鈥檚 collections. #Italy #Rome #HistoricArchitecture
