I Traveled Across the U.S.—and Unexpectedly Fell in Love with Chicago
You can’t hide how you feel about a person—and you definitely can’t hide how you feel about a city. On this U.S. trip, I visited Buffalo, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and finally—Chicago. And Chicago? It completely stole my heart. Maybe it’s because I added it to my itinerary last minute. I had zero expectations, barely any plans… I didn’t even look up how to get to my hostel until after I landed at Chicago Midway Airport! ✈️ Of course, this is just my personal opinion—but let me tell you why Chicago won me over. ❤️ Moment 1: After arriving at the airport, I headed to the L train (or metro? still not sure what it’s called 😅) toward downtown. I thought I could just tap my credit card—nope. I stood confused at the ticket machine until a station employee came over, warmly helped me buy a ticket, and even typed everything in for me. I was both touched and felt totally useless. 😂 Then, inside the station—with so many trains and unclear signs—another staff member personally walked me all the way to the right train car. At that moment… I already started falling for Chicago. ❤️ Moment 2: Chicago might not be as famous as New York, D.C., or Las Vegas… but it felt clean, organized, and calm. Not Japan-level clean, sure—but compared to Philly or NYC? Huge difference. There were also far fewer tourists. No squeezing through crowds at attractions—just chill vibes. And Chicagoans? So polite. So orderly. Every race, every background—just kind. I rode the L, buses, and Metra… and everyone was quietly waiting in line. One day, at a pier, we were lining up for the bus back when a woman in a wheelchair said: “Hey, the bus doesn’t stop here.” We all thought she was being weird… until we realized she was right. I felt so bad for doubting her. ❤️ Moment 3: I checked into my hostel around 1 PM—way before the official 4 PM check-in. I just wanted to drop my bags and leave… but the staff said: “We’re so happy you’re here! Here’s your key—your room is ready now.” I was speechless. 🥹 I love Chicago. It feels like a movie. I love watching the trains go by, the streets breathe, the people live. This city? It surprised me, moved me, and felt like home. #Chicago #USATravel #SoloTravel #GoodVibes #TravelMoments #HiddenGems
