Is Athens the Best Food Capital in Europe? 🏛️🍴
After eating in Athens for four days, I can honestly say I had Greek food 🇬🇷 for every meal—and not a single disappointment! It’s incredibly friendly to the Chinese palate 😋. Truly delicious, affordable, and no forced tipping! Around €15+ per person including drinks, €20+ with seafood 🦞. 🍽️ Must-Try Greek Dishes: Greek Salad 🥗 – With feta cheese like soft tofu cubes, mixed with fresh veggies. Moussaka – The national dish, like an eggplant lasagna. Souvlaki – Grilled skewers wrapped in pita bread 🥙. Other classics: meatballs, sausages, grilled meats, seafood, etc. 🏆 Restaurant Recommendations: Here are some places I tried (+ honest ratings!). My Airbnb host also shared a list (see last image 👀)—no ads, just real talk! 1️⃣ Karamanlidika 📍 7 mins from Monastiraki Square ⭐ Rating: 5/5 Unique Greek dishes with almost Chinese-level flavors! Every table gets free ham and yogurt. 🚨 Often busy—make a reservation! 2️⃣ Thanasis 📍 2 mins from Monastiraki Square ⭐ Rating: 5/5 A legendary skewer spot recommended by my host. Packed with locals drinking on weekends! 3️⃣ Opos Palia 📍 2 mins from the Acropolis Museum ⭐ Rating: 4.5/5 A casual street-style eatery. Their grilled squid is amazing 🦑. 4️⃣ Kalyvas Family Grill 📍 12 mins from the Acropolis Museum ⭐ Rating: 4.5/5 Super local grill joint—huge portions, great price. 5️⃣ Grande Dame Athenian Tavern 📍 6 mins from Syntagma Square ⭐ Rating: 4/5 Upscale tavern with grilled meats and octopus 🐙. 6️⃣ LIONDI Traditional Greek Restaurant 📍 1 min from the Acropolis Museum ⭐ Rating: 4/5 A bit touristy but tasty. They might recommend pricier dishes—be aware! 7️⃣ Stani 📍 2 mins from Omonia Square ⭐ Rating: 4/5 Famous yogurt spot 🍯, but VERY sweet. Try it—but don’t order too much! 💡 Tips: Portions are generous + come with bread, yogurt, etc. One main dish is usually enough. Book in advance if possible—summer is peak season! 🌞 #FoodieTravel #GreekFood #AthensEats #EuropeanCuisine #FoodRecs 🍽️✨
