Kubo — A Hidden Gem Filipino Spot in Chicago 🇵🇭🍽️
Ever since Kasama blew up, Filipino cuisine has been having its moment, right? This place was first recommended by my friend strangefoodschicago (Keng), who mentioned they serve traditional Kamayan feasts. But even ordering à la carte is totally worth it! 🍴 Started with small pork adobo ribs — sweet, savory, and just the right size as an appetizer. 🍴 Pan-seared salmon topped with crab meat — like a crab cake and salmon hybrid! 🐟🦀 🍴 Sizzling sausage with fried zucchini — the zucchini was a bit over-fried, but the sausages were juicy and flavorful — highly recommend those! 🍴 Chicken adobo as the main — two chicken legs, a breast, veggies, and garlic rice. Solid, though adobo tends to taste similar everywhere. 🍴 Sizzling pork belly — tangy, sweet, with a hint of spice. The owner cooked a fresh egg on the hot plate right at our table and even gave us extra chili peppers! 🌶️🔥 🍴 Daily special: sea bass in sweet and sour sauce — even better seasoned than Tuk Tuk’s fish, crispy skin and tender meat down to the bone. 🍴 For dessert: classic Halo Halo and jackfruit turon (banana spring roll). ⭐ Must-try: their ube ice cream — the most authentic, naturally fragrant ube I’ve had in Chicago (no artificial flavor!). The rest of the Halo Halo was just okay — honestly, Cebu’s mini version is better. The turon was fine, but light on jackfruit filling. Kubo also has a dog-friendly patio 🐕 — perfect for sunny days with your furry friend! P.S. Across the street is Catcade 🐱 — the cat café I’ve recommended before. Pair your meal with some kitty cuddles for the perfect day! Kubo: 1232 W Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL 60657 #ChicagoEats #FilipinoFood #HiddenGem #KamayanFeast #ChicagoFoodie #AdoboLove
