Lanzhou Beef Noodles in Chicago’s Northwest Suburbs 🍜✨
First time writing about a spot without naming it upfront—currently called House of Szechwan & Hand-Pulled Noodle, with a modest Chinese sign outside reading .” But since the owner might change the name again, searching by address is your safest bet! 📍 House of Szechwan & Hand-Pulled Noodle 22 E Northwest Hwy, Des Plaines, IL 60016 🥢 Lanzhou Beef Hand-Pulled Noodles – As soon as I saw this online, I rushed over! Authentic Lanzhou beef noodles are known for “one clear broth, two white radishes, three red chili oil, four green cilantro, five yellow noodles” — and this bowl nailed it. I skipped the cilantro (not my thing), but the broth was rich, chili oil fragrant, and noodles incredibly chewy. They even gave us scissors to cut the noodles — at first I thought chopsticks would do, but wow, these noodles were so springy, scissors were a must! ✂️🍜 🍅 Tomato Beef Noodles – My mom ordered this. Compared to the classic version, it had a tomato twist. She said it felt a bit oily but still delicious. Portions are HUGE — she couldn’t finish it and had to ask my dad for help! 😅 👨🍳 Live Noodle Pulling – The chef makes the noodles fresh to order — you can watch him stretch and pull the dough right after you order. Truly handmade and fresh! 🥙 Rougamo (Chinese Burger) – The pastry is flaky like a Tongguan-style rougamo. Filling includes pork, green peppers, and scallions (cilantro optional). Not 100% traditional but still tasty — worth a try! 🥒 Cold Appetizers – We had cucumber salad and celery with dried tofu skin. The owner said if you join their WeChat group, you get a free side dish + updates on new items (they might switch to Hunan cuisine later!). Great spot for a satisfying, authentic noodle fix — chewy handmade noodles, rich broth, and generous portions! 🥟🌶️🥢 #ChicagoFood #LanzhouNoodles #HandPulledNoodles #ChicagoSuburbs #ChineseFood
