Loba's Magical Coconut Sourdough That'll Change Your Life đ„„âš
Last month, I made a special trip to Chicago and purposely booked a stay in Lake Viewâjust to be close enough to Loba Pastry + Coffee without the downtown hassle. Arrived around noon on a Saturday, and the place was packed (but thankfully, so were the pastry cases!). While waiting in line, I eavesdropped on a regular customer giving his expert opinions to someone nearby: "Miso blondie? Too sweet. Corn muffin? My daughterâs fave. Emmie? Their signatureâa canelĂ© remix!" đ§ Thanks to him, I had a game plan... until I spotted a dark, mysterious loaf in the case. Turns out, it was the fresh-out-the-oven Coconut Sourdoughâand against all logic (and luggage space), I hauled this giant loaf home. Regrets? Only that I missed their Black Mole Croissant and Mizudashi cold brew (next time, Iâm sitting down for brunch!). đ Coconut Sourdough ($15+tax) The BEST carb decision of my Chicago tripâmaybe even the best toast Iâve had in years. đ€Ż Sourdough base but with added dairy/fat (think: milk bread meets pain de mie). Freshly baked when orderedâwarm, crispy crust with a fluffy, mochi-like interior. Aroma: Buttery + toasted coconut heaven. đ„„đ Discipline test: I only tore off one piece on the spot. The rest became coconut-crusted French toast with candied orange peelâtranscendent. If you skip this, youâre doing Chicago wrong. đ§ Emmie ($5.5+tax) Their "gluten-free, nutty canelĂ©". Close in texture, but the shellâs hard (not glassy-crisp). Still tasty, though! đ„ Sesame Bun ($6.25+tax) A brioche-like bun with INSANE black sesame pasteâso rich, youâll need a buddy to share. đ Loba Pastry + Coffee 3600 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL Pro Tip: Go early for the Black Mole CroissantâIâm still dreaming about it. đ #BreadLover #ChicagoFoodie #ChicagoBakeries #HiddenGems #CarbHeaven #SourdoughMagic
