Madison | New Cake/drink/snack Shop on State Street 🍰🥤🍡
New in Madison | Little Sweet: Domestic-Style Cakes & Mango Sago Dessert Steal the Show 🍰 My friends and I have been hitting up the new dessert spot Little Sweet on State St a lot lately—it’s right across from Taiwan Little Eats, so super easy to find. Sure, it was a bit rough around the edges when it first opened (we showed up on day one only to find it closed!), but the cakes and drinks exactly hit that craving for domestic-style afternoon tea. Plus, the price is totally reasonable! 📍 First Impressions: New Shop Hiccups & Familiar Vibes It was definitely a bit chaotic at the start: our first visit was a bust because it wasn’t open yet, and the ordering kiosk only had a handful of drink photos at first (we basically ordered blind based on pictures). But as they’ve settled in, you can tell they’re going for that domestic afternoon tea shop vibe—fluffy cakes, topping-loaded drinks, and even the sweet aroma in the air feel familiar, like stepping into a dessert spot back home. 🍰 Must-Try Cakes: Not Overly Sweet, Just Like Domestic Fruit Cakes! My friends and I all agree—the cakes here are a win! They’re nothing like the cloyingly sweet American desserts; the sweetness is just right, with a creamy texture mixed with fresh fruit that instantly takes me back to cakes from home. I got the Honey Dew (pictured 5, $16)—the sponge is moist, and it’s packed with fresh honeydew chunks. Perfect with a cup of tea. The price isn’t bad either—seriously, LeC (Rock Tea) should take notes on this pricing! 😂 🧋 Drinks: Mango Sago “Dupe” Is a Must, Skip This One! My group has tried the drinks twice, so we’ve got the hits and misses: Mango Sago Pudding-Style Drink (Right in Pic 2) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Blind order this! It tastes exactly like Yangzhi Ganlu (a classic Chinese mango sago dessert)—rich mango flavor, loaded with sago and mango chunks. We picked it purely because it had a photo on the kiosk, and it’s now our go-to. Peach Dah Dah (Pic 3) ⭐️⭐️⭐️ A bit too sweet! It has peach pulp and jelly, and the whipped cream topping is nice, but the sweetness overpowers the peach’s freshness. Also—still have no clue what “Dah Dah” means 😂 We just ordered it for the whipped cream and the photo. 🍟 Snacks: Always Out of Stock, Still Unlocked… They have snacks like fried squid, popcorn chicken, even pasta and salad—but every time we go, either they’re sold out or not available. Haven’t gotten to try them yet. Fingers crossed they keep stock consistent soon—nothing beats a full afternoon tea of cake + drink + snacks! 📌 Verdict: Madison Finally Got a Proper Dessert Spot! Little Sweet might have had a rocky start, but the cakes and mango sago-style drink make it worth the trip. It’s not overly sweet, tastes like home, and is reasonably priced—total comfort food for international students. Really hope more spots like this pop up in town; it heals every homesick stomach. 📍 Address: State St (right across from Taiwan Little Eats) ✅ Recommendations: Honey Dew Cake, Mango Sago Pudding-Style Drink #UniversityofWisconsinMadison #DessertHeals #MadisonWI #Wisconsin #MadisonFood #MadisonEats #UWMadison #MadisonDesserts
