Mammoth Cave National Park | A Cool Summer Adventure! 🕳️❄️

Located midway between the Smokies and Chicago (~4-5 hours from each), Mammoth Cave offers epic underground tours that blew my mind! Perfect summer escape—the caves stay a chilly 12°C (54°F) while it’s blazing outside! 🔥→❄️ 🎟️ TICKET TIPS • Park entry = FREE, but all cave tours require tickets (book at https://www.recreation.gov). • Tour prices: 20-70 (varies by time/length). • Pro tip: Bring a jacket (it’s COLD down there!) and download offline maps (no cell service!). ✨ TOUR HIGHLIGHTS 1️⃣ Historic Tour • Oldest & most famous route – Explores 19th-century mining sites and Civil War gunpowder pits (supplied 1/3 of America’s wartime saltpeter!). • Fun fact: You’ll see historic graffiti from 1800s tourists! 2️⃣ Domes & Dripstones Tour • Stalactite heaven! Descend through a secret-looking door and spiral stairs into glittering limestone formations. • Most photogenic – Feels like walking through a dragon’s lair 🐉. Both tours: ~2 hours, easy walking, groups of ~100. 🏨 SLEEP CHEAP! We stayed at Horse Cave Motel ($50/night!) – clean, comfy, and 100x better than overpriced park lodges. 🤑 🚨 MUST-KNOW • Arrive early – Tours sell out FAST in summer. • No food in caves (but picnic areas outside!). • Best for: Families, geology nerds, and anyone who loves eerie beauty. #MammothCave #NationalParks #CaveExploring #SummerTravel #BudgetTravel #Kentucky #HiddenGems
