Mariscos San Pedro: The Ultimate Chicago Mexican Seafood Experience π¦
On New Year's Eve, Dusek's, which I used to love, announced it was closing its doors. In its place is Mariscos San Pedro, a Mexican seafood spot run by chefs Marcos Ascencio, Oliver Poilevey, and Antonio Incandela. You might not recognize their names, but if you've heard of their restaurant ObΓ©lix or the Taqueria Chingon I've written about before, you'll know they're serious about their food. π π Picture one is the Ceviche and aguachile cocktail, featuring shrimp, mussels, and avocado. Ceviche and aguachile are both types of Mexican citrus-marinated seafood dishes, but aguachile is usually cucumber-based and spicier, while ceviche is tomato-based. This place, however, combines the two for a refreshing, dual-flavored dish that's both fresh and spicy. They serve it with crispy corn chips and an extra touch of soda crackers, so you can enjoy the seafood on your favorite carb. π π Picture two is the tuna tostada. The fresh, fatty fish is topped with avocado and Mexican hot sauce, but surprisingly, it tastes a lot like Chinese Laoganma hot sauce! π£ π Picture three is the octopus Sonoran dog. This is a Mexican-style hot dog, usually with a regular hot dog sausage, bacon, and Mexican bean chili sauce. But this place goes all out with a grilled octopus leg, avocado hot sauce, salsa, and crispy chili sauce. It's more about the rich, oily flavor than the spiciness. π π Pictures four and five are the duck tamale, which many consider the Mexican version of a rice dumpling. The restaurant uses a homemade blend of spices for their mole sauce, and the duck is generously portioned. π π Picture six is the large and small lobster quesabirria with a dipping lobster bisque. Birria tacos became super popular last year, and the quesadilla version is even better. The gooey, cheesy filling with lobster meat, dipped in the rich soup, makes for a perfect blend of seafood and cheese. π¦π§ This place perfectly combines Mexican and American flavors. The dishes aren't super authentic, but they're definitely delicious. The portions are quite large, so I recommend coming with friends to try a variety of dishes. π₯© Mariscos San Pedro #FoodieSummerMeow #ChicagoLife #ChicagoEats #NorthAmericanLife #Chicago #AmericasPartyCorner #GlobalFoodieSquad #EarthVillageFoodContest #Seafood #FoodKnowsNoBounds
