Marseille Food Guide: Winter Delights in the South of France

Marseille’s food scene blew me away—way better than I’d imagined! I went in with low expectations, but by the end, I was mourning the fact that we only get three meals a day. I could’ve eaten so much more before leaving 😭 Chez Roger Tucked near the tourist train station by the Vieux-Port, this spot is a steal. Our seafood platter for two cost €65, and every bite hit the mark. The oysters? Not the biggest or plumpest, but incredibly fresh—perfectly briny, with just the right salinity. Even paired with the house white wine, they shone 😋. Every item on the platter was a winner—highly recommend! 1860 Le Palais On a main street, this place looks like upscale fine dining. We went for lunch and skipped the wait. Following Xiaohongshu’s tips, we ordered the daily special (beef) and octopus legs. The beef was tender, smothered in a rich red wine sauce that complemented it perfectly. The octopus? 😁 Shockingly tender—cooked to that melt-in-your-mouth texture. My only quibble: the seasoning was a bit heavy, overshadowing the octopus’s natural sweetness. Still tasty, but I would’ve loved a lighter touch to let the seafood shine.😂 Brasserie l'OM Café - Officiel Yes, it’s hyped to death—but for good reason. Their bouillabaisse exceeded all expectations: no fishy aftertaste, loaded with seafood, and the broth was so flavorful I drank every last drop. The fish itself? Flaky and fresh. We also tried the steak tartare, which was solid but slightly on the sweet side. Skip the fried squid, though—it’s nothing special.😁 La Panetteria A cozy bakery that opens early—ideal for “travel warriors” chasing early mornings. We stopped by for breakfast and tried their freshly baked morning pizza (or maybe focaccia? Either way, it hit the spot). If you’re like me and crave something warm first thing, this is your place.😂 Marseille’s winter food scene is a revelation—fresh seafood, comforting classics, and hidden gems that make every meal feel like a celebration. Don’t sleep on this city’s flavors!😁 #France #Marseille #FoodGuide #RestaurantRecommendations #SeafoodLovers #WinterEats
