Meet the Brookfield Zoo’s Newest Resident Polar Bear
The Brookfield Zoo’s animal family is about to get a little bit bigger—Chicagoland’s largest zoo will welcome a new resident polar bear this fall! An 8-year-old female polar bear named Amelia Gray will join the zoo’s resident bears Hope and Hudson at the *Great Bear Wilderness* habitat, according to a release. Amelia’s journey to the Midwest ------------------------------- Amelia comes from the Oregon Zoo in Portland, Oregon. The majestic mammal is known for her playful demeanor and a signature gray fur patch on her neck. The polar bear’s arrival marks a major win for the Brookfield Zoo’s conservation efforts for the endangered species. The zoo hopes to pair Amelia with a male polar bear to produce cubs at some point in the future. “We look forward to welcoming Amelia Gray to Brookfield Zoo Chicago,” said Mark Wanner, associate vice president of animal care and conservation at Brookfield Zoo Chicago. “...her arrival is a powerful opportunity to educate the community of the critical need to protect this vulnerable species.” Guests will have the opportunity to visit Amelia in her new habitat as early as October.
