Monterey|Found the Perfect Ruben · Wave Street Cafe

I found the perfect Ruben sandwich in Monterey! 🥪 Wave Street Cafe 550 Wave St, Monterey, CA 93940 This place is super popular 🔥! We arrived around 11 AM and had to wait an hour. A heads-up: it’s near Cannery Row, so parking is tricky. We parked in a paid lot, which only charges a daily rate—$20 a day 🔪! By the time we found out about the wait, we were stuck, so we killed time wandering Cannery Row. Pro tip: if you want to eat here, add your name to the waitlist first, then plan your sightseeing around the time 🗺️. Fried calamari makes another appearance 🦑 (good thing this was just a two-day getaway, or I’d definitely be dealing with high cholesterol 😂)! Their calamari is better than the one we had at Flaherty‘s Seafood yesterday—slightly tender and chewy, highly recommend 👍! Now, the highlight: the Ruben sandwich ✨! I had low expectations because I’d tried one at First Awakenings before, which used sliced beef instead of chopped. Since both are in Monterey, I figured they’d be similar—but wow, was I wrong! This one was spot on 💯. The beef is chopped, mixed with sauerkraut, thousand island dressing, and cheese, and the bread is perfectly toasted to a crispy crunch. It’s exactly the Ruben of my dreams 😋! If you love Rubens, you have to try this on your getaway. Everything we ordered was great. The omelet was… just an omelet (I’m not a big fan 😐), but overall, highly recommended. Just be prepared for crowds during meal times—plan accordingly ⏰! #getawayBayArea #BayArea #BayAreaLife #BayAreaWeekendGuide #BayAreaWeekend #BayAreaFoodAndFun #BayAreaSurroundings #BayAreaDayTrips #BayAreaLocalFood
