My go-to comfort spot

This place, A Baked Joint, was my weekly sanctuary during my PhD years. Back then, it had a raw, industrial vibe, with weekend lines always stretching out the door. Their handmade pastries could easily rival those from famous bakeries, and they even sold their own merch and local honey — thoughtful touches that made it feel like home. Now reborn next door as La Betty, the space feels more polished, but that sense of belonging remains. The menu is mostly unchanged, with a delicious addition: their Special Donut, which is absolutely worth trying. 🌟 Must-orders (tried, true, and full of nostalgia) 🍞 Brûlée French Toast (weekends only) The texture reminds me of traditional fermented dough — crispy outside, soft and honeycombed inside. Topped with blueberries, strawberries, and honey, it’s hearty and deeply satisfying. Get there early; it often sells out by 1 PM. 🥪 Biscuit Sammie Always add the runny fried egg and goat cheese — it takes this sandwich to another level. Unique, savory, and absolutely essential. ☕ Drinks we love Matcha Latte: consistently excellent. Ube Blackberry Latte (new, and you can add a shot): my friend tried it iced — just make sure to stir the syrup well. Once blended, it’s wonderfully layered and worth a taste. 🥗 Curry Chicken Salad My long-time favorite. Lightly spiced, not heavy, tossed with pea shoots, pistachios, and tender chicken — refreshing and subtly complex. Never gets old. 🥩 Short Rib Sandwich A meat lover’s dream — packed with juicy braised beef and deeply satisfying. A top pick among my guy friends. 💡 Good to know Portions are generous. Most of my female friends end up eating one portion and taking one home. Address is in the last slide. Still the same warm, worthy destination it’s always been. This wasn’t just a café — it was the weekly sweet reward I gave myself through all those years of buried-in-books hustle. #DMV Eats #DC Cafés #A Baked Joint #La Betty #Brunch Diary #Virginia Food #Taste of Memory
