OKC’s Creative American Spot: Culprits – Starters Are Absolute Winners

My partner had an exam in OKC, and I already knew there aren’t too many great eateries here. By the time we finished up and got to the city center, it was past 9 PM. After scrolling through my phone for ages, I finally settled on Culprits, which was still open – just looking at the photos made me think "this should be good," and it ended up blowing me away! Let’s start with the appetizers – every one hit my taste buds perfectly! First up is the Flaming Scallops, which so many people rave about online 🔥. It’s served with dancing flames, taking the sense of ceremony to the next level! The scallops are seasoned perfectly, with rich buttery aroma wrapping around the sweet seafood. Cut into them gently, and you’ll find a slightly runny center inside – tender with a hint of chewiness. One bite is full of surprises; you’ll definitely regret not ordering this if you come here! The other appetizer, mussels stewed in white wine with sausage, is also a total winner! The bread on top is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside – dip it in the sauce below, and it’s an instant "chef’s kiss" 🤤. How fresh is that sauce? To put it exaggeratingly, "it would make even a shoe taste good"! The mussels aren’t super big, but each one is fresh and plump, with no fishy taste at all. Underneath, there’s tender stewed onion and chopped sausage, soaked in the aroma of white wine. One bite is full of layers, so fresh it’s incredible! The main courses are relatively average. We ordered Chicken Fried Ribeye and Pork Chop: the former is well-fried, and it’s not bad with their gravy – even a bit better than the one at Babe’s Chicken Dinner House I had before. The meat is juicier and the crust is crisper; but the latter was a bit of a letdown. I’ve always thought pan-fried pork chops can hardly avoid being "slightly tough," and this one was no exception – the texture was still lacking. Although it’s seasoned with wine, which gives a nice aroma, and it’s not overcooked, it just doesn’t reach that "tender" texture, so it’s not very impressive. It seems that next time I come, I should stick to regular mains like steak or lamb chops. Even if the mains have small flaws, I’ll definitely come back to OKC for these two appetizers! (Though 4 scallops for $32 is really not cheap, but it’s so delicious I can’t resist 😭) #Dallas #DallasLife #Oklahoma #OKC #FoodExploration #CreativeAmericanCuisine
